The Unique United Kingdom!

The Unique United Kingdom
By: CeCe P. (For more info, go to Pinterest - All About the United Kingdom)
I studied a country called the United Kingdom, which is located West of Europe, but still in Europe. It contains four countries, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England. The capital of the U.K is London, England. They have a different form of government than America, because they are a monarchy. They have a King and a Queen and also a Prime Minister. The Queen of England is Queen Elizabeth II, but unfortunately, her dad, King George, passed away. Queen Elizabeth has been Queen for 59 years, she became Queen February 6th, 1952. That was the same day that King George, (her dad) died. Her husband is Prince Philip. The Prime Minister is David Cameron. There ares castles that the Queen lives in, Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. The castles are so amazing!
This is the amazing Windsor Castle
The United Kingdom is 6 hours ahead of us. If it is 8:00 AM here, it would be 2:00 PM there. They use army time, so if it is 2:00 PM there, they would say that it is 14:00. Honestly, I don't like Army time as much because it is math, when you go above 12:00 then you have to add. I would rather use the Standard Version.
Surprisingly, the U.K has no written constitution. I think that that is a mistake in their part because then they have nothing to refer to if they have any problems. But they did write the Bill of Rights in 1689. From the Census in 2011, they counted 64,088,222 people living there. The whole United Kingdom is 94,058 sq. miles.
The earliest signs of human presence are dated back to 5000 B.C, when the United States is only like 200 some years old. Some structures were made in 3000 B.C, and are still there. There is a stone that people made back in 196 B.C that is called the Rosetta Stone.
This is the Rosetta Stone
I actually saw it when I went to England, and it was pretty cool. On the front of the stone, there are little writings or scripts that were from Egypt. It was carved into the stone many many years ago.
In the U.K, they celebrate many holidays. They celebrate Christmas on December 25th, and on December 26th, they celebrate a holiday called Boxing Day. They celebrate this day because it is a day to rest and see friends and family after Christmas. They also celebrate Good Friday and Easter Monday, and also the Spring and Summer Bank Holidays.

The United Kingdom is such a cool place to go. There are so many sights to see and things to do, you will never get bored!

  1. Hi Cecee,

I can't believe the Queen has ruled for almost 60 years; hard to believe isn't it?!? Great work in identifying key facts about England!

  3. I loved your pinterest. I don't like army time too. But it's better then getting the wrong time and showing up at 6am instead and 6pm. I think it's crazy that they don't have a contusion. I think it would be hard to make a case if they don't have the laws written down.

  5. I really liked your blog along with your Pinterest board. It's interesting that you have been to your country. My country used to be owned by yours. No hard feelings...

  6. Cece, your blog and your pinterest was off the hook. In Brazil they don't have a king and a queen, they just have a president.

  7. I loved you information on the pinterest! I think it is interesting that the royals only earn money by the taxes. I did Australia and they also have a prime minister. Australia and the United Kingdom are different because Australia dose not use army time. Great Job!

  8. I really enjoyed reading your blog! Their form of government is much different than my country's government. Instead of a King, Queen, and Prime Minister, they just have a President in Mexico. Mexico also has a written constitution, unlike the United Kingdom. We have quite a few differences between our two countries! Nice job on your blog!

  11. I really enjoyed your presentation, and your blog. I never knew that the United Kingdom never had a constitution. Unlike China, my country has no ruler like a king or queen, China has a president. The holidays the United Kingdom celebrates seem to be similar to the countries they once had control over.

  12. I find it cool that there is a monarchy and they don't have any power also I kinda think that is a waste of money, but that is just my opinion. I think that is is very cool that there is a rock that is bout 2000 years old in the UK.

  13. I really think you did a nice job explaining the different sections of the UK. As I told you, it's not an easy country to explain! I know how fascinated you are with the royals (as most Americans are), so I'm glad you got to research them-and become even more confused! :) It is quite a family! Loved the connections you were able to make as a result of your trip there. I LOVE LONDON!

  15. I really enjoyed your blog. I did not know that the earliest sign of human presence was discovered in 5000 B.C. One thing that the UK and Ecuador don't have alike is that your country has a kink and queen while mine has a president and vice president.

  16. Great job presenting today! I really liked learning about the UK. In my country, Peru, There is a president, which is different from the UK, that has a queen and king, but the king and queen from the UK and the president from Peru both serve 5 year terms, although the president of Peru can't run two consecutive terms.

  17. I thought you presentation was very interesting. Especially that the pound is worth a lot more then the US dollar when the Nepalese rupee is worth so much less. I also think it is cool that they have a rock that is from 196 BC.

  18. I enjoyed your blog and presentation. I think it is very interesting that both Israel and the united kingdom both have history dating back thousands of years ago. However, I learned that many of the artifacts were actually not from the current united kingdom. Overall, great job.
