Don't Eliminate Egypt

Don't Eliminate Egypt

My country that I researched on was Egypt. It is a small country located in the northern tip of africa and part of the middle east The government in Egypt is big, powerful and oppressive in my opinion. I think this because many rights that we have in the U.S. are severely suppressed like freedom of speech, assembly and press. Also in egypt only 50% of voters vote which makes elections way easier to rig in one's favor. It also has a big farming economy. Over 29% of the people in Egypt are employed due to farming and agricultural pursuits. One of the main reason that Egypt is big on farming is because of the nile river. The economy is Egypt in my opinion is pretty messed up considering that their Gdp per capita is 3,314 and in the U.S the GDP is 53,041. Although 29% percent of Egyptians are employed due to agricultural pursuits. Many are employed because of the tourism in egypt, because it contains one of the seven wonders of the world.

The Amazing Australia
By:Katie K.
Australia is one amazing country. It is located in the Southern Hemisphere and is the largest of the  islands that make up Oceania. Although Australia was first used as a penal colony by England, it is now a very pleasant place to live. The penal colony was a place where they put the exile prisoners to separate them from the general public. I think it is great that they were able to turn their country around and become a peaceful place. Before the criminals arrived, the land was occupied by people we now call the Aboriginal Tribe. The early settlers set up trade with the Aborigines. I think that this was a good idea because it help the people and the Aboriginals to create a calm area. The Aborigines can claim a unique musical instrument to call their own, the didgeridoo. The didgeridoo is a instrument that creates a distinctive sound. Didgeridoo creates a beautiful sound in my opinion. The head of Australia’s government is the Prime Minister. As part of the United Kingdom, Queen Elizabeth II is the Head of State. However this position carries no real power. There have been 29 Prime Ministers in Australia. The Prime Minister is considered to be like the President of the United States of America. I think that is really cool because they kind of have the same government. I learned a lot about the amazing Australia.

Blog about Serbia

My country is Serbia. It is located in Europe and the countries surrounding Serbia are Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia, and Albania. I learned a lot of interesting things about Serbia. I learned that the overall literacy rate for 15 year olds in Serbia is 98.1%. The life expectancy for the people in Serbia is about 78 years. I learned that one of the main dances in Serbia is Kolo. That is when everyone gets in a circle, holds hands, and does a dance to Serbian folk music in the background. People usually dance Kolo at weddings, Slava's, parties, and other functions. I also learned that in Serbia they have a president, which is the leader of the country, who is named Tomislav Nikolic. Serbia relies on agriculture and manufacturing. Serbia imports more than it exports. It also used to be part of Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia had broken up in 1992. One of the reasons Yugoslavia had broken up was because the wars that had been going on between Bosnia and Croatia. So after the breakup it had turned into 6 different countries; Serbia, Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, and Macedonia. Another thing that I have learned about Serbia is that the main language is Serbian and the main religion is Serbian Orthodox. I think that Serbia was a really interesting country to learn about.

The big parts that make up little Rwanda

My country is called Rwanda, located in Central Africa and very interesting to learn about this often overlooked country. In Rwanda the government is lead by President Paul Kagame and he has been leading the country since 2000. While there has been a lot of improvements because of his leadership, I think he not run for 3rd term because the power may go to his head. Many people participate in voting because I think they know whats its like not to be able to vote and they take full advantage of it now.
The Rwandan genocide I think is the worst mass murder of people since the holocaust. It boggles the mind have people so cruel and evil that they would murder 1 million in hundred days and the world just stood by and watch. Thankfully Rwanda recovered and is rebuilding but the scars are still there. I find weird that religion in Rwanda is still a big thing after something like that. I guess God is a light in the dark for most people

Rwanda geographically looks like a second Eden. All kinds wildlife from imposing rare gorillas to all kinds of tropical birds. I love to fly to Rwanda and see the sights like the mountains and savannahs

Kim Jhong Korea

I  studied the northeast Asian countries in Korea and that's what my blog is going to talk about. Korea is divided into North Korea and South Korea. I will post opinions and facts about the government, economy, history and other aspects of both these countries.

South Korea's government is a fair and equal system of bureaucracy. They run a democracy where a president leads the country, but still needs approval from the congress. I believe they are doing a much better job then the U.S.A. North Korea's government is much different. They are a communist state and have a dictator that has unlimited power over the people and military.

South Korea is one of the leaders in the world in gender equality. The most obvious example is the fact that the President is a woman. I believe this is a large step forward in the world's gender equality movement. North Korea on the other hand is very gender divided. There are woman in the government and military but it is mostly controlled by men.

South Korea's economy is exemplified by their busy always moving and growing factories. They have one of the largest and most successful economies. After they were liberated at the end of world war 2 their economy grew very rapidly. They are now one of the world's biggest exporters and ship goods all over the world. North Korea has not done as well as their neighbors, as they are failing at producing enough goods and food for their population and economy. The population in North Korea is dying due to hunger and starvation as a result. Although greater trade and interaction with other countries could help, the dictator will not allow this.   In my opinion, the dictator is cruel to make his people suffer just because he can’t accept help from other countries.

A significant part of history for both sides of Korea was the Korean War.  On June 25, 1950 North Korea passed the 38th parallel and invaded South Korea. Although hesitant, the U.S. and the U.N. backed the South Koreans. On the other hand, the U.S.S.R. and China joined the fight but chose to help North Korea. After nearly one million deaths on both sides, a ceasefire ended the 3 year war. My opinion on the war is that we were right to help our allies at that time.  However, it's been a long period of time since the war and by now the U.S.A. and North Korea’s relations should have improved. Both sides have made little effort.

I have have enjoyed my time learning about the Korean peninsula. I hope to write more about these fascinating countries.Kim Jhong Korea

Ireland Blog 10/22/15

My country is Ireland and it is the very west of the United Kingdom. Ireland is a parliamentary democracy that filled with culture, religion, and history. Ireland is lead by president John.D Higgins. I think he is a good president that makes good decisions. There were some very weird and not right laws before President Higgins. One law was that Jews could not wear armor in Ireland for some reason, This was one of the most poor and upsetting laws. Currently he is in his seven year term which will end in 2018. The main religion is roman catholic which makes sense because of Celtics. Holidays and culture are very much based around Christianity and roman catholic. The biggest holiday/celebration is St.Patrick's day. In Ireland it is the biggest holiday and is very fun. In America it is a very fun and different so I just can't imagine how crazy it is in Ireland.

Brilliant Brazil

Brilliant Brazil
By:Alina Rabi
My country is Brazil. Brazil is located in South America. I learned many things from presidency to sports. It was fascinating to learn about Brazil. In Brazil Winter lasts for 3 months, June to August. Their most common season is Summer. During the Summer it can get as hot as 104 degrees Fahrenheit. The most popular sport in Brazil is soccer, but they call it football. It is really crazy how people wear face paint and wear jerseys to support the team. Brazil’s president is Dilma Rousseff, she is the first women to be president in Brazil. Another thing that was interesting to learn about was Brazil’s government. Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world. There is also a holiday in Brazil that is called Black Awareness day. It was made to honor a black person named Zumbi, who led a group of slaves to freedom, but was killed in the process. At first I didn’t think that Brazil would be that interesting, but the more I learned caused me to be more interested. I had so much fun learning about Brazil. The Unique United Kingdom!

The Unique United Kingdom
By: CeCe P. (For more info, go to Pinterest - All About the United Kingdom)
I studied a country called the United Kingdom, which is located West of Europe, but still in Europe. It contains four countries, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England. The capital of the U.K is London, England. They have a different form of government than America, because they are a monarchy. They have a King and a Queen and also a Prime Minister. The Queen of England is Queen Elizabeth II, but unfortunately, her dad, King George, passed away. Queen Elizabeth has been Queen for 59 years, she became Queen February 6th, 1952. That was the same day that King George, (her dad) died. Her husband is Prince Philip. The Prime Minister is David Cameron. There ares castles that the Queen lives in, Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. The castles are so amazing!
This is the amazing Windsor Castle
The United Kingdom is 6 hours ahead of us. If it is 8:00 AM here, it would be 2:00 PM there. They use army time, so if it is 2:00 PM there, they would say that it is 14:00. Honestly, I don't like Army time as much because it is math, when you go above 12:00 then you have to add. I would rather use the Standard Version.
Surprisingly, the U.K has no written constitution. I think that that is a mistake in their part because then they have nothing to refer to if they have any problems. But they did write the Bill of Rights in 1689. From the Census in 2011, they counted 64,088,222 people living there. The whole United Kingdom is 94,058 sq. miles.
The earliest signs of human presence are dated back to 5000 B.C, when the United States is only like 200 some years old. Some structures were made in 3000 B.C, and are still there. There is a stone that people made back in 196 B.C that is called the Rosetta Stone.
This is the Rosetta Stone
I actually saw it when I went to England, and it was pretty cool. On the front of the stone, there are little writings or scripts that were from Egypt. It was carved into the stone many many years ago.
In the U.K, they celebrate many holidays. They celebrate Christmas on December 25th, and on December 26th, they celebrate a holiday called Boxing Day. They celebrate this day because it is a day to rest and see friends and family after Christmas. They also celebrate Good Friday and Easter Monday, and also the Spring and Summer Bank Holidays.

The United Kingdom is such a cool place to go. There are so many sights to see and things to do, you will never get bored!

Italy-Brett Emory

My country is Italy, it is located in Europe.  I like Italy, it is filled with many great tourist attractions, religious spots, and some great food.  Italy’s government is strong, with Sergio Mattarella as the president.  He is the head of state.  The Prime Minister is the head of government.  Italy’s economy was once at a really bad spot. In 2008 Italy’s economy fell in 2013 adult unemployment rose to 12% and youth unemployment was at 40%.

I think that Italy did a bad job in trying to rebuild their economy.  This was kind of like the think it was as bad, but what I do think is worse is the way Italy tried to rebuild the economy, the U.S tried to lower their unemployment, but Italy’s unemployment raised and was still raising 5 years after the economy fell.

Italy also has some amazing food, that I personally love very much.  I am almost ¼ Italian and my family likes to make Italian food so I am always in some way connected to Italy.  In Italy they eat the continental style, with the fork on the left and the knife on the right.  When one person is finished they put their utensils on the plate and do not leave until everyone has finished.  I think is very formal and I would never eat this way unless I am at a party or something.  In all I loved researching Italy and one day I hope I can visit there.

Fantastic France

My country is France and is located in Europe. When I reached France I learned many interesting things like the government in France. They have a President AND a Prime Minister. The president can serve two terms five years each and the capital is in Paris France. I also learned that children in France start learning English at age nine. We don’t even have the option to learn French until sixth grade.  I also loved learning about the French architecture. The Disney movie Beauty and the Beast is based off of a city in France and that is really cool. The Disney movie The Hunchback Of Notre Dame is based off the cathedral of Notre-Dame-de-Paris. One more big thing in France is the Tour-De-France. It think it is a fun race to watch because it is so long one day one person will be ahead and then the next day another person will be. It was so much fun learning about France.

A Little Bit About Israel

    A Little Bit About Israel

By: Ben Shapiro
My country that I decided to research is Israel. Israel is in the middle east and Asia. I learned all about Israel. From its economy to its military to its Daily life. My overall analysis of Israel is that nothing can match its unique culture. One of the many things I learned was Binyamin Netanyahu. Binyamin Netanyahu is in charge of the government in Israel. He was elected for a 7 year term in a similar process as the United States of America. The legislative branch or the knesset as it is called in Israel votes for the next leader. The knesset has 120 members whom are voted in by the people for a four year term. In recent events Binyamin Netanyahu objected to the U.S. Iran nuclear program. He will likely be in charge of the government until 2021. I intend to present all this information tomorrow. I also will talk about famous tourist sites and daily life for a child in Israel. Life in Israel is very different. It is more intense for a child; with their school six days a week and then into some other activity for the rest of the day. Also they truly do enjoy their weekend. They often go to a beach and then out to dinner or a movie. Some weekends I am mostly resting, not Israeli children. Overall Israel's culture is unlike anything else in the world.

Numerous things about Nepal

Nepal

The country that I am studying about is Nepal. Nepal is in Asia right between China and India. I learned a lot about Nepal. Nepal is one of the poorest countries that I know of. The Nepalese people also eat a lot of food I have not heard of. I’m a pretty picky eater, and I would only eat a couple of their foods.
I feel bad for a lot of them considering that most of them can’t afford cars. I do cross country, and it is hard, but having to walk and run everywhere, well, that seems impossible.
Nepal’s government is a federal democratic republic government. That means that the people vote. Nepal has a prime minister who runs the government. A ceremonial role in Nepal is filled by the president. I don’t really have a strong opinion on this. I think that is a good type of government. I just don’t see a point for a ceremonial role.
Nepal’s religion is mostly Hinduism. 81% of Nepalese are Hindus. In Hinduism, they believe in many gods. The three main gods that they believe in are called the Hindu trinity. I think that Hinduism is really interesting. I liked learning about it because it is a different perspective about what people think.

All About Ecuador
By: Seth P.

My country that I researched is Ecuador. I learned About Ecuador’s government, economy, arts, religion, geography, daily life, and history. Ecuador is a small country located on the upper west coast of South America. It borders Colombia, Peru, and Costa Rica. The capital of Ecuador is Quito. Quito is located on the upper west side of Ecuador. Ecuador has a democratic government. This means that they have a president and a vice president, just like here in the U.S. Their president and head of government is Rafael Correa. Their vice president is George Glas. Also like here, The president and vice president both run four year terms and can run for a second term. In my opinion though, I don’t think that Ecuador’s government is working because a lot of people in Ecuador are poor.

In fact, in 2008, twenty five percent of people in Ecuador were unemployed. Of the seventy five percent of people that are employed, over a quarter of them are employed in agriculture. The biggest export that Ecuador has are bananas. However, that isn’t their only export. Other exports that they have are coffee, cocoa, shrimp, and fish. Ecuador’s currency is the same as the U.S. currency ever since 2000. Before that it was the sucre.
The most popular attraction in Ecuador are the Galapagos Islands. It is an island that has a lot of animals and seems really cool to visit. I would want to visit the Galapagos Islands but I get sea sick. However, my brother and my mom don't. In the Galapagos, it is very hot because Ecuador is located on the equator.
Overall I would say that I learned a lot of interesting facts about Ecuador and I can’t wait to learn more.

Amazing Austria

Amazing Austria
The country I researched was Austria and Austria's located in Europe. It was really fun and interesting to learn about Austria. I got to learn about Austria’s government, daily life, religion, history, economy, language, geography, and art. I had no idea that Austria’s president is Heinz Fischer and that the voting age is sixteen in Austria. I assumed that the president in Austria would serve for four years and have up to two terms like the U.S, but in Austria the president serves for six years for up to two terms. I think it’s great that the presidents can have six year terms because then Austria has the same president for a longer amount of time. I also didn’t know that Austria’s official language is German but in highschool they're required to know English. I can’t imagine speaking in a different language at school because it would be so strange to speak different languages in different places. I also didn’t know that throughout the day they eat breakfast, Jause, a midday meal, a nighttime snack, and then at the end of the day they have Abendessen. These are just a few things I learned about Austria and it was so fun. I hope I can continue to learn more about Austria and hopefully visit Austria someday.

The Marvelous Peru

The Marvelous Peru

Peru is located in South America and borders Ecuador, Chile, Brazil, Bolivia, and Columbia.

It was fun and interesting to study the country of Peru. I have learned so much from the time I started researching. Before this year, I only knew a couple simple facts about Peru, and now I know specific information on different topics including Peru’s government, economy, history, religion, daily life, arts, geography/climate, and language. Like for example, under the topic of government, I learned about the Presidency and Vice Presidency. There is one space for a President and there are two spaces for Vice Presidents. In my opinion, it is a good idea that there could be two Vice Presidents so that they can help make decisions and the Vice Presidents can work together. I also think that the President and Vice Presidents have the right amount of power.
Peru's location on the coast is very beneficial to their economy because one of their big exports is fish and fish meal. I think that if Peru was located anywhere else, then their economy and food would be much different. A lot of their daily meals contain fish and if they weren't on the coast, then their meals would be different. Since Peru is the largest producer of fish meal in the world, they would lose a lot of money if they weren't on the coast.
Kids in Peru are supposed attend school from elementary school to high school, but many kids are unable to go to school that long which I believe may hurt their future. The kids that stay in school all the way through are probably more successful because they can go to a university. Also in many schools in Peru, children are required to wear a uniform. To me, this is both a good thing and a bad thing. If kids have to wear a uniform to school then society can't judge their style, but it is also a bad thing because then the kids are unable to express their personality in school. It depends on what one's point of view is on if it is good or bad decision.

I also learned about the Spanish conquest, and I think that without this event, Peru wouldn’t be the way it is today. Before the Spaniards took over, the Inca civilization (natives to Peru) were the leaders of Peru. The Spanish helped shape things like the languages spoken and the religions in Peru. I feel like a very important historical place in Peru is Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu was probably an Inca royal estate. A while after it was built, the Incas kind of disappeared and there have been different theories on why the left. I believe it’s because the Spaniards invaded them and eliminated the Incas living there. I think that when the Spaniards realized that Peru had many treasures, and found an Inca royal estate, they took everything from them.  I have loved learning all the things I did about Peru and am hope to learn more.

The Mighty Kingdom Of The Netherlands

The country I studied was The Netherlands. The Netherlands is a very small country in Europe. One of the things I found most interesting is The Netherlands Government. I was so happy and impressed that most people in the Netherlands are okay with same sex marriage and that it was the first country in the world to make in legal! I thought the U.S was the first country who started this just in 2015. But the Dutch started it in 2001! Now moving on to History. I choose to write about Anne Frank. The holocaust is a very interesting and touchy subject for me. I know so much about Anne and her life. She was very a important girl and ended up giving The Netherlands a lot of tourist because of her museum. Anne Frank is a great role model. It was very interesting relearning about her life. I think it’s unfair that she had to live in a house and never come out for 2 years. It’s also very tragic that her and her family were found by the nazi’s and died in a consentration camp in Poland called Auschwitz. After the war her father who survived it found her diary and published it. A quote from her diary states “In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart.” This is really surprising. She doesn't hate Hitler and the nazi’s for doing this to her and her people. She still believes they are good people. This teaches people all around the world to always see the good in people no matter what.
This Is a picture of Anne Frank
Writing in her diary.
Another thing that was especially interesting is The Netherlands is the Arts they have. I am a BIG fan of art. One of my favorite artists in Vincent Van Gogh. I learned a little bit about him when I was younger. Then I found so much more information on him. For example.. He was bipolar, and born in the Netherlands. I didn't know that! The only thing I knew was that he was famous and that he cut off half of his ear. This is Vincent Van Gogh
In The Netherlands economy they rely so much on international trading. That’s why after The Holocaust people were starving because The Netherlands have very few natural resources. They also export HALF the world's tulips! That’s crazy and a lot of tulips… Overall I really enjoyed learning about my country and can’t wait to learn even more! I’m also looking forward to possibly blogging more in the future. I think this was very fun. :)

Here's My pinterest board on more about The Kingdom Of The Netherlands.
